April 10, 2014 | Dermapen
Collagen is a protein in the skin that acts to support the skin and keep it elastic. When collagen decreases over time, the skin loses it plumpness; skin starts to sag and fine lines appear.
The Dermapen is a pen-shaped medical device that is used to help turn back the hands of time. The pen is rolled over the surface of the skin, creating micro injuries; these injuries, in turn, stimulate the production of collagen. Skin lifts and tightens over time, and noticeable results can be seen within the first few treatments.
The Dermapen works great for:
- fine lines and wrinkles
- acne scars
- photo aging
- large pores
- stretch marks
- tattoo removal
How Dermapen Works
The Dermapen has a spring-loaded needle tip that moves in a controlled, automatic stamping motion; this motion minimizes pain and bleeding while producing consistent results across the area being treated.
Each sterilized, individual needle tip contains 11 fine needles whose depths can be adjusted during the procedure, based on skin contours and individual need. These tiny needles push facial rejuvenation topicals, such as hyaluronic acid and peptides, into the deeper layers of the skin, enhancing their effectiveness.
There is less downtime with the Dermapen compared to many other rejuvenation treatments, and treatment is less expensive than a fractional laser. Results can last up to two years.
Dermapen versus derma rollers
Due to its vertical needle stamping action, the Dermapen causes less epidermal damage than facial dermatology rollers. This action also eliminates the rolling scars typical of derma roller treatment. It can treat areas that cannot be easily or safely reached with rollers, such as the delicate skin surrounding the eye area of the sharp contours around the nose. The Dermapen also has the ability to penetrate scar tissue.
What to expect the first few days
- mild to moderate swelling, depending on the aggressiveness of treatment
- possible pinkness or redness of the skin, similar to a sunburn
