Many men strive to have a chest that is firm and muscular. However, even after extensively working out, some men are unable to develop their pectoral muscles to a size that is satisfying to them. Fortunately, cosmetic surgery can improve the appearance of the chest and make a man feel more masculine. At his El Paso plastic surgery practice, Dr. Agullo performs pectoral implant surgery for men of all ages.
The most common reasons for undergoing pectoral implant surgery are to:
- Increase the size of the chest
- Increase the projection of the chest
- Correct a sunken or hollowed chest (pectus excavatum)
- Improve self-esteem
This procedure is performed in an outpatient setting with either intravenous conscious sedation or general anesthesia, depending on the patient’s preference. Incisions are strategically placed in the armpits along the edge of the pectoral muscles, through which the implants are inserted into the chest. Dr. Agullo uses solid elastomer implants that come in different sizes and shapes to meet the patient’s desired results. Sometimes liposuction or pectoral etching are also needed to remove excess fat deposits and attain the best possible outcome.
After pectoral surgery, most patients wear an elastic vest or bandage to help reduce swelling. Some discomfort is expected during the first week, and patients should get plenty of rest and fluids. Most patients return to work in about two weeks, but they should avoid exercising for at least six weeks.
Pectoral implant surgery is a very rewarding procedure that has long-lasting results. Men feel more confident about their overall appearance and no longer feel self-conscious about taking their shirt off in front others.
