December 22, 2014 | Fat Reduction, Liposuction
With the large number of plastic surgery procedures available, patients are surely going to have an array of questions. One of the most popular that arises is, “Are the results of liposuction permanent?” While the simple answer to this question is, “Yes,” and liposuction is meant to provide long-lasting results, there is no guarantee that the initial results will last forever.
Some factors that can affect the long-term results of liposuction include:
Lifestyle
After some individuals undergo liposuction they think that they can eat and drink whatever they like. This is completely untrue. In fact, in order to maintain the most lasting results, patients are advised to follow a healthy lifestyle that includes a nutritious diet and consistent exercise. In addition to eating healthy and exercising regularly, it is also recommended that patients refrain from smoking and consuming alcohol in excess.
Weight Gain
The fat that has been removed with liposuction is permanently gone from the body, so some weight gain after the procedure will likely be distributed differently throughout the body. However, significant weight gain can have a negative effect on the results, so maintaining a healthy weight is important for preserving the more slender body contours achieved with liposuction.
Natural Aging Process
Although the results of liposuction are meant to be permanent, there is no way to completely stop the aging process. There is an increased likelihood of weight gain with age, and the skin tends to become stretched and loose as it loses elasticity, which can detract from the more attractive results first achieved with liposuction.
Considering Liposuction?
Ideal candidates for liposuction are close to their ideal weight and have no serious medical problems. Potential patients should not view liposuction as a method of weight loss and need to have realistic expectations about the outcome of their procedure.
