A dimpleplasty is a cosmetic procedure designed to create dimples on your face. Dimples are an indentation in your cheeks and sometimes your chin that show up when you smile. They’re caused by a small opening in the facial muscle and are most often a genetic trait, though an injury occasionally causes them. Many people admire how dimples look and choose a dimpleplasty to create a more welcoming smile.
What Are the Benefits of a Dimpleplasty?
Dimples can add definition to your smile, giving your face more character and enhancing your natural beauty. You can choose to have dimples placed in one or both cheeks, as well as your chin. Dr. Agullo will ensure that your new dimples fit perfectly into the natural contours of your face, complementing your existing features. In a short, thirty-minute procedure, a dimpleplasty can give you a more contoured, youthful look with no need for anesthesia, minimal recovery time, and no scarring.
Am I a Candidate for Dimpleplasty?
Ideal candidates for dimpleplasty surgery include people who:
- Are in overall good health
- Do not smoke or vape
- Are over the age of 18
- Have round cheeks and want to slim their facial appearance
- Desire dimples to add character and charm to their face
What is Discussed During My Dimpleplasty Consultation?
When you come in for a dimpleplasty consultation with Dr. Agullo, you will discuss your dimples’ desired size, depth, and placement. Dr. Agullo will pinpoint the exact location of your new dimples, meticulously measuring them to ensure exact symmetry and surgical placement.
How is Dimpleplasty Performed?
Dimpleplasty is an outpatient procedure performed right in our office. Dr. Agullo begins by marking the spots where your dimples will be placed and applying a local anesthetic to ensure the procedure is comfortable and pain-free. Once the anesthetic takes effect, he will make a small, two to three-millimeter incision on the inside of your cheek, under the spot where your new dimple will be. He removes a minuscule amount of fat and muscle to create a minute hole in your cheek. Then, he connects the sides of the hole using an absorbable suture. When the stitch is tied off, it creates a dimple effect on your cheek. Once the incision heals and the suture is absorbed, the resulting scar tissue between the inner skin of your cheek and the muscle makes your dimple permanent.
How Should I Prepare for My Dimpleplasty?
The best way to prepare for a successful dimpleplasty is by choosing a plastic surgeon like Dr. Agullo, who has the skills, expertise, and experience required to perform a successful dimpleplasty. After your consultation and once you’ve scheduled your procedure, be sure to follow his instructions about avoiding smoking and cease your use of blood-thinning medications and all herbal supplements. On the day of your procedure, arrive at the office with a clean face, wearing no makeup, moisturizers, or any other topical skin products.
What Are Your Concerns?
What Can I Expect From My Dimpleplasty Recovery?
You can go home immediately after your appointment because dimpleplasty surgery is a relatively quick outpatient procedure. You may initially experience minor swelling and mild soreness, but these side effects are easily managed with acetaminophen and ice packs. They will resolve on their own in a couple of days. You can also return to your normal activities one to two days after your dimpleplasty; however, you’ll want to avoid making exaggerated facial expressions while you heal. Dr. Agullo will also prescribe a short course of antibiotics to help prevent infection, and rinsing your mouth with antiseptic mouthwash a few times a day can also help.
Is Dimpleplasty Painful?
Because Dr. Agullo uses a topical anesthetic, your dimpleplasty will not be painful. After the procedure, you may experience minor discomfort, but it is easily managed with over-the-counter pain relievers.
Does Dimpleplasty Leave a Scar?
Dimpleplasty surgery only utilizes incisions inside your mouth, so there is no visible scarring from the procedure, and your dimples will look completely natural.
When Will I See My Dimpleplasty Results?
At first, your new dimples will be deep and visible even when you’re not smiling. However, they will soon settle in and only become noticeable when you make “dynamic” expressions, which means that, like a natural dimple, they will only be visible when you smile.

The cost of this procedure varies depending on whether you choose one or more dimples and their placement. A consultation with Dr. Agullo is the best way to determine which is best for your desired look. We offer transparent pricing for our services.
