Ozempic Face Treatments

in El Paso, TX

Thousands of people have finally realized their weight loss goals using semaglutide, marketed as Ozempic® or Wegovy®. However, many have also realized that the significant and sometimes rapid weight loss fostered by these medications comes with a few unwanted side effects: more visible lines and wrinkles and drooping skin, collectively known as “Ozempic Face.”

If you’re thrilled with your weight loss but less thrilled about its effects on your face, Dr. Frank Agullo offers a wide range of non-surgical, minimally invasive, and surgical options to treat loss of volume and noticeable lines, wrinkles, and sagging associated with Ozempic Face.

What Is Ozempic Face?

The term “Ozempic Face” is a term a dermatologist coined to describe similar symptoms of premature or visible aging in certain patients. Loss of volume in the face, more prominently etched lines, and lax skin were all issues plaguing these patients, and he realized that the common thread between all of them was that they had lost weight using semaglutide. So, he began to describe the condition as Ozempic Face.

What Causes Ozempic Face?

Because semaglutide can help you lose a significant amount of weight in a relatively short time, it can result in your skin being unable to “bounce back.” This means that when you lose weight gradually, your skin has time to adjust to the decrease in volume and more easily holds its shape. Rapid weight loss doesn’t give your skin time to adjust, so the result is excess sagging skin and more noticeable creases in your face.

Symptoms of Ozempic Face

  • Loss of volume in the face, especially in the cheeks, lips, and chin
  • Hollowing around the temples and eyes
  • A gaunt, aged appearance
  • Deeper, more visible wrinkles
  • Sagging around the jawline, under the chin, and on the neck

While semaglutide can cause Ozempic Face, it doesn’t just affect those who’ve shed excess pounds using the medication. The symptoms above are also part of the natural aging process. In older adults, the skin eventually loses its youthful elasticity, and facial volume also decreases.

Non-surgical Treatments for Ozempic Face

Injectables: Sculptra®, JUVÉDERM®, and Restylane®

Dr. Agullo uses a wide range of injectable fillers designed to restore volume, decrease the visibility of lines and wrinkles, and boost your body’s collagen production for beautiful, natural-looking results.

JUVÉDERM® and Restylane®

JUVÉDERM® and Restylane® are hyaluronic acid-based gel fillers that come in a variety of thicknesses and are used to address volume loss, fine lines, and wrinkles in your face.

Hyaluronic acid (HA) is found naturally in your body and is a prevalent ingredient in skin care products because of its incredible ability to hydrate and plump skin. The gel in JUVÉDERM® and Restylane® works immediately to soften lines on your face and replace volume. The hyaluronic acid in the formulation also helps stimulate collagen to extend your results. JUVÉDERM® and Restylane® fillers typically last between six months and two years, depending on the formulation you choose.

Sculptra®

Sculptra®, while often referred to as a filler, actually doesn’t provide the artificial volume of traditional fillers. Instead, poly-L-lactic acid (PLLA-SCA) is used to stimulate the body’s collagen production. Because it relies on your body’s processes to work, it doesn’t offer immediate volume or wrinkle smoothing. Instead, it smooths and plumps your skin from the inside out over the course of a few months. The effects typically last for up to two years.

Minimally Invasive Treatments for Ozempic Face

While there are several reasons your skin begins to wrinkle and droop as you age, one cause is attributed to two vital building blocks in your skin: collagen and elastin. Your body is always manufacturing collagen and elastin, but over time, production of these skin-supporting powerhouses slows. At the same time, the collagen and elastin fibers that are already bolstering your skin’s structure are becoming brittle and losing their youthful elasticity.

The minimally invasive skin tightening treatments that Dr. Agullo offers include devices that harness radiofrequency (RF) energy to tighten skin by addressing collagen and elastin depletion and breakdown. At the same time, tiny incisions are strategically placed to allow for precise liposculpting and targeted delivery of the RF energy.

FaceTite® and AccuTite™

Both FaceTite® and AccuTite™ employ the same methods for minimally invasive skin tightening and fat reduction. Known as radiofrequency-assisted lipolysis (RFAL), these treatments send radiofrequency energy to the treatment areas to both melt fat and tighten skin. A cannula with an interior RF electrode is inserted into the incision. The RF energy heats the targeted fat, melting it, while the cannula gently suctions it away.

At the same time, an external electrode is placed on the surface of your skin, and RF energy passes between the internal and external electrodes, heating the deep dermis of the skin without damaging the surrounding tissue. The result is twofold: heat energy that causes the collagen fibers to contract, tightening your skin, and a signal to your body to increase collagen and elastin production in the treatment area. Both of these elements leave you with tighter, more youthful skin.

FaceTite® and AccuTite™ treat mild to moderate signs of aging on your face and neck.

Non-Surgical Facelift With EmbraceRF

For those unhappy with signs of aging on their face but not yet ready for a surgical facelift, a non-surgical facelift with EmbraceRF is the answer. EmbraceRF is radiofrequency energy technology used in FaceTite®, Morpheus8™, and Fractora™. Besides the lipolysis and skin-tightening abilities of FaceTite®, a non-surgical facelift adds the tightening and skin-perfecting powers of Morpheus8™ and Fractora™ RF microneedling.

Thread Facelift

A thread facelift is a surgical facelift alternative performed using a local anesthetic. It uses thin biocompatible threads to lift and fasten the skin in a more elevated position. The threads help stimulate collagen production, eventually dissolving and absorbing into your body.

Surgical Treatments for Ozempic Face

If your Ozempic Face symptoms need surgical intervention, Dr. Agullo also offers a full menu of cosmetic procedures to smooth and tighten the areas on your face that need it.

Fat Injections

Facial fat injections, also called fat transfer, are essentially injectable fillers using fat harvested from your own body. Excess fat is removed from an area of your body via liposuction, cleaned and separated in a centrifuge, and injected into the areas of your face with lines or volume loss.

Facelift

For more advanced signs of aging, Dr. Agullo offers several facelift options. Depending on your specific concerns and desired results, he will help you select from a full facelift, mid facelift, or mini facelift according to your needs.

Neck Lift

A neck lift targets excess skin and fat under your chin and across your neck. It eliminates sagging skin, jowls, and fat and tightens the muscles and platysmal bands of your neck.

Brow Lift

Weight loss in your face may also affect your browline, making your eyebrows droop. A brow lift elevates a saggy brow, tightening weakened muscles and excess skin and giving you back a more youthful brow contour.

Eyelid Surgery

Weight loss can cause excess skin in several places on your body, including your eyelids. Eyelid surgery, or blepharoplasty, is designed to eliminate drooping skin on your upper eyelids, lower eyelids, or both. It addresses crow’s feet, eyelid creases, and puffy or dark circles under your eyes.
